Ecuador
Overview
In Ecuador, the percentage of urban population ascends to 74%, and of these people, more than half lives in medium cities (with less than half a million inhabitants). These cities play a key role in the global urbanization processes. In a consolidated territorial networks, such cities could become regional centers of ecologic equilibrium and land regulation, both from the demographic and economic point of view, which could have an impact in reducing poverty, violence and the environmental damage.
Our current work in this country is based on developing and testing a data toolkit to benefit a program that fosters sustainability for medium cities.

GIZ Data Project Cycle
In partnership with the GIZ Data Lab, this project seeks to create a Toolkit to guide GIZ in the use of nontraditional data sources throughout the project lifecycle. The tool is being designed and developed from a thorough analysis of GIZ processes, aiming to understand how and where non-traditional sources of data can be leveraged in the formulation, design, implementation and evaluation of their projects. The Toolkit, designed with the user in mind, was tested and tried to support GIZ Ecuador’s “Ciudades Intermedia Sostenibles” II.
