We at Data-Pop Alliance (DPA) are pleased to announce our partnership with the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation (PJMF). PJMF has awarded DPA’s Data Feminism Program a twelve-month, $300,000 grant to support our work advancing intersectional, data-driven research, training and advocacy to continue fostering gender equality across Latin America and the Caribbean, the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa.
This synergistic partnership between our like-minded organizations moves forward our goals to help create a future where the potential of information and data is accessible to all. PJMF’s mission statement includes the aims to bridge the frontiers of artificial intelligence, data science, and social impact. At DPA, our motto, “changing the world with data”, refers to its ability to improve the lives, livelihoods and social conditions of people around the world, particularly those in the “Global South” for whom the data revolution has yet to deliver on its promise.
This grant will enable our Data Feminism team to continue to harness gender-inclusive data, both from traditional and non-traditional sources. We do this through a combination of project-based research, gender assessments and data training, as well as through the development of our own unique initiatives. It is also vital that this work be carried in an intersectional and participatory manner, in which all stakeholders are equal partners through the entirety of the process.
“Data-Pop Alliance is very happy to announce we have been awarded a $300,000 unrestricted grant from the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation to support our Data Feminism Program to leverage data and technology to promote gender equality around the world. This grant will enable us to deepen and expand our past work on challenging and urgent issues such as violence against women and girls (VaWG), child marriage and female genital mutilation, access to services and opportunities, and equal participation and inclusion, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, the MENA region and Africa. Receiving this highly competitive grant from a leading Foundation is also a recognition of the quality and potential of our efforts towards gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls that honors and obliges us”, said Emmanuel Letouzé, Director and Co-Founder of Data-Pop Alliance.
“Too often, the violence girls and women face remains invisible in society,” said Vilas Dhar, President of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. “DPA’s Data Feminism program leverages emerging technologies and expert analysis to diagnose local problems and deploy data analysis and AI to mobilize solutions. We are honored to partner with DPA to transform society by building a safer future for young girls and women.”
