Buthaina Alabrash is a Data Engineer Intern at Data-Pop Alliance (DPA). She holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science from the American University of Beirut (AUB), where she is currently in her second year. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science with a minor in Arabic from AUB, where she built numerous projects across various fields, collaborating with talented and like-minded individuals.
Professionally, Buthaina has a varied background that spans research, teaching, and technical development. As a Research Assistant at AUB, she has worked closely with fellow researchers to conduct academic research and literature review on creating Arabic chatbots. Her role as a Teaching Assistant involved preparing lab materials, teaching, and grading labs in the Introduction to Programming course (JAVA).
Buthaina has also worked as a Data Entry Specialist at AUB, where she developed and maintained organized Excel database sheets and conducted interviews with participants to record and integrate findings into the database. Additionally, she has gained professional training from Zaka AI Academy, earning a Machine Learning Certification by building an AI language detection model and applying various machine learning algorithms.
Her significant projects include working as an Information Retrieval Engineer, where she performed data enrichment and applied different retrieval models for efficient patient matching in clinical trials.
Buthaina’s recognitions include the Refugee Scholarship Support for undergraduate studies, the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship for graduate studies, the Mary Jones Memorial Award by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at AUB presented a graduating female student who exemplifies outstanding commitment to community service and volunteerism.
Passionate about bridging the gap between technology and humanitarian efforts, Buthaina is dedicated to leveraging her skills to contribute to DPA’s mission.
