Jos Berens

Jos Berens is Data Policy Officer at the UN OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data in The Hague. The Centre for Humanitarian Data is focused on increasing the use and impact of data in the humanitarian sector. At the Centre, Jos leads the Data Policy work stream, through which the Centre aims to increase the trust needed for responsible growth of the humanitarian data ecosystem.
Jos holds an LL.M in Public International Law from Utrecht University and a bachelors degree in Philosophy of a Specific Discipline from Groningen University. Prior to joining the Centre for Humanitarian Data, Jos coordinated the International Data Responsibility Group from the Centre for Innovation at Leiden University, where he collaborated and co-published with various international and non-governmental organizations. Jos’s work focuses on the risks, ethical and legal considerations associated with the use of digital data for vulnerable and crisis-affected populations.
