Lázaro Jesús Pérez Lugo serves as a Data Scientist & Data Engineer at DPA, bringing a rich background in computer science and a fervent commitment to leveraging data for societal benefit. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2015, followed by a Master’s Degree in Computer Science in 2018, both from the Universidad Central Marta Abreu de Las Villas. In 2020, he embarked on a new academic journey in Mexico, beginning his PhD in Computer Science at the Centro de Investigaciones en Matemáticas (CIMAT) in Guanajuato.
Before relocating to Mexico, Lázaro was an Assistant Professor at Universidad Central de las Villas from 2015 to 2020, where he specialized in programming and Artificial Intelligence. His academic tenure was distinguished by several accolades, including the prestigious Award from the Academy of Sciences of Cuba at the provincial level for his master’s research. In late 2022, he transitioned to the role of Data Engineer at Intelimétrica, where he managed data operations and developed ETLs to streamline the ingestion of information into productive databases.
Lázaro’s dedication to the field of computer science is evident in his pursuit of using technology to address societal challenges. He is particularly inspired by initiatives like the OPAL project and MPI+, which harness sensitive data, such as cellular information, to generate indicators that can help prevent epidemic diseases in Morocco or inform policies aimed at reducing poverty in vulnerable areas. His passion for making a societal impact with his expertise in computer science drives his professional and academic endeavors.
With a robust foundation in both theoretical and applied aspects of computer science, Lázaro is committed to continuous learning and applying his skills to create meaningful change. His interests align closely with DPA’s mission, focusing on the intersection of data science, social good, and ethical technology use.
