Michiel is an MIT Computer Science PhD candidate and a research assistant at the Human Dynamics lab at the MIT Media Lab where he is supervised by Alex ‘Sandy’ Pentland. His research lies on the intersection of machine learning and computational social science while focusing on a broad range of topics ranging from algorithmic fairness and privacy to human-computer interaction and deep learning.
He is a native of Amsterdam and holds a bachelor and a master of science in Physics from TU Delft where he worked and published on quantum computing at QuTech and IBM Q. Prior to continuing his education at MIT, he co-founded the tech startup Bloomon in London. At MIT, Michiel is supported by a presidential ‘Jacobs’ fellowship.
