DPA Provided Technical Support for the National Seminar to Launch Tunisia’s National Strategy for the Development of Statistics

Representatives from NCS, NIS, UNDP-Tunisia and DPA

DPA contributed to the technical support provided by the United Nations System in Tunisia to the National Council for Statistics, National Institute of Statistics and Ministry of Economy and Planning in the launch of the development of Tunisia’s first National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS).  The in-person event, hosted in Tunis on September 19 and 20, 2022, was focused on bringing together relevant stakeholders from the Tunisian statistical ecosystem (and wider society) with the objectives of collectively identifying the main challenges and opportunities of the Tunisian National Statistical System (NSS) and defining the common vision of a modern and forward-looking NSS. In addition to the public statistical structures, these stakeholders included representatives from various government ministries, regional administration, civil society and the private sector.

DPA was represented at the event by Co-Founder and Director Emmanuel Letouzé, Director of the Resilient Livelihoods and Ecosystems Program Nigora Isamiddinova, DPA-affiliated consulting experts Jean-Michel Durr and Omezzine Khelifa. As part of the workshop, Emmanuel gave a presentation titled, “Applications and Implications of Big Data for Official Statistics”, the slides for which can be found here (in French). Philippe Gafishi, the Inter-Regional Advisor of Paris21, had presented a video message on  the importance of developing and implementing a National Strategy for Development of Statistics for the national development objectives, including achievement of the SDGs, as well as the factors that can contribute to the success of the NSDS process (in French). The video can be seen below.
