Data-Pop Alliance is looking for a Research and Content Intern. We are an international nonprofit created in 2013 out of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI), the MIT Media Lab and ODI. We bring together researchers, experts, practitioners, and activists to change the world with data through three pillars of work: diagnosing local realities and human problems with data and AI; mobilizing capacities, communities, and ideas towards more data literate societies, and transforming the systems and processes that underpin our societies and countries

Dates: 3 months, full-time, with possibility of extension. 

Location: Remote.

Scope of Work

Reporting to the Project Managers, the Research and Content Intern will produce research and analysis in the fields of data, sustainable development, socio-economic impacts of COVID-19, agriculture and food systems, livelihoods, economic, social and cultural rights, and others, as well as generate content for the project. Among others, primary activities for the Research and Content Intern include:

1.Research  (50%)
  • Perform analytical research on assigned topics to support ongoing projects by compiling bibliographies, reviewing academic and grey literature, mapping and analysing secondary data.
  • Draft project documents, including reports and policy briefs, to communicate findings and evidence-based policy recommendations.
  • Research and review different sources of information to support the literature review.
  • Edit and revise ongoing research and project documentation.
  • Support content creation by drafting policy briefs, reports,research papers and short analytical articles.
  • Support Project Managers with other related tasks such as preparation of presentations, progress tracking, webinar and meeting organization.

2. Data Collection and Analysis    (50%)
  • Support and assist the data scientists by mapping relevant secondary data sources of information and collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Support data collection activities by developing quantitative and qualitative survey methodologies and questionnaires. 
  • Conduct key informant interviews, analyze findings and draft interview reports.
  

Profile/Qualifications

  • Recent graduate of a master’s degree programme (or student in last semester of university) with a degree in International Development, Public Policy, Development Economics, Political Science or other relevant social science fields. 
  • Strong interest in research at the intersection of data and international sustainable development, poverty reduction, climate change, sustainable agriculture, food security, livelihoods.
  • Demonstrated experience in the field of international development, with a focus on livelihoods development, food systems and agriculture, human rights, impact evaluation methods, monitoring and evaluation.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish are required.
  • Ability to work with people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects while being proactive, analytical, and organized.
  • Familiarity and experience with qualitative and quantitative research and analysis (especially if the candidate has proven knowledge of Stata, R, Python and/or N Vivo).
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
  • Comfortable with remote teams and processes. 

Candidates should be able to work independently, manage their time wisely, and meet deadlines. They should be detail-focused, reliable, professional, and possess strong research, writing, editing, and analysis skills, as well as excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.

Remuneration 

500 USD per month
