Data-Pop Alliance (DPA) is looking for a Development and Partnership Manager. We are an international nonprofit created in 2013 out of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI), the MIT Media Lab and ODI. We bring together researchers, experts, practitioners, and activists to change the world with data through three pillars of work: diagnosing local realities and human problems with data and AI; mobilizing capacities, communities, and ideas towards more data literate societies, and transforming the systems and processes that underpin our societies and countries. 

DPA has partnered with and received funding from organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, UNDP, FAO, UN ESCWA, GIZ (German development agency), the Vodafone Institute, Oxfam México and other key international stakeholders to develop projects in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and Asia. DPA’s projects are managed and carried out by a core team of about 35 people, including Directors, Managers, Officers, Data Scientists, Research Assistants, and Interns. This position will be critical to help DPA solidify and scale its work. 

Dates: Start date ASAP, with a trial contract of 3 months to be followed by longer-term contract depending on mutual fit.

Location: Remote, preferably based in LAC, SSA, or MENA

Scope of Work

The Development and Partnership Manager will be supported by development officers and program staff, and report to the Managing Director. He or she will:

  • Direct organization-wide fundraising and partnership development efforts, acting as primary point of contact to external stakeholders
  • Manage the Development Officer and associated program staff through the entire lifecycle of proposal development and submission, including coordinating methodological frameworks, identifying external partners, etc. 
  • Prepare development bids, including drafting proposals and conducting follow-up.
  • Map potential donors, sources of funding and potential partners
  • Oversee new project scoping via tender platforms, donor websites, etc.
  • Generate new project or program leads with funders across any of DPA’s 6 Thematic Program areas
  • Direct all fundraising projects and the associated proposals, including but not limited to:
    • Evaluate potential projects for fit with DPA team and values,
    • Co-create and update individual Asana boards for each proposal, keeping each updated and in active use,
    • Manage team members for contributions to proposal development,
    • Research and leverage past proposal contents, where applicable, to future applications,
    • Support budget preparation, consultation with PMs and other staff to determine costs and other considerations.
    • Communicate and manage each proposal’s TORs, requirements, and specifications (including relevant partner organizations and individuals)
    • Other tasks as required
  • Share regular updates with Directors and PMs to communicate proposal status
  • Analyze and advise Directors on macro-trends and partnership opportunities in the field  
  • Support the delivery of the proposals, including submitting via email, platform, or other means
  • Other tasks as required

Profile/Qualifications (Required)

  • Graduate degree in International Development or Affairs, Communications, International Relations and Business, or other related fields
  • 3-7 years of successful experience in fundraising and partnership development with a focus on development, humanitarian assistance, human rights, gender, social inequality, public policy, and related topics
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the capacity to prioritize and manage information
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills in English and French (Spanish fluency also desirable)
  • Ability to work with people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to multitask, while being proactive, analytical,organized, and remain calm
  • Advanced knowledge of project budgeting and financial management
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Comfortable with remote teams and processes

Profile/Qualifications (Desired)

  • Experience with human development research, including but not limited to topics around DPA’s six Thematic Programs
  • Spanish fluency would be a strong asset, as would any other language
  • Intermediate to advanced management of Adobe Suite programs, such as Illustrator and InDesign is a plus

Candidates should be able to work independently, manage their time wisely, and meet deadlines. They should be detail-focused, reliable, professional, and possess strong research, writing, editing, and analysis skills, as well as excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.

Remuneration 

Competitive salary, negotiable depending on profile and experience, within organization-wide salary norms. DPA team members get 25 days of paid leave per year, accruable. Sick days and personal days are also available.
