Ivette Yáñez Soria

Ivette Yáñez Soria serves as the Strategic Communications Director and Senior Researcher for the Technology and Democracy and Data Feminism Programs at Data-Pop Alliance (DPA). She holds an MA in International Development Practice from Monash University, Australia, and a BA in Communication Studies from ITESM, Mexico. Her master’s thesis explored the pathways of Indigenous women towards social change leadership within Mexico.

With over 15 years of experience across the public and private sectors, Ivette has developed innovative digital communication strategies, crafting compelling content for both online platforms and traditional media, and leading dynamic social media communities. Her expertise extends to managing web projects and spearheading communication teams. Over the last four years at DPA, Ivette has worked as a technology and gender researcher and project manager, contributing to high-profile projects on which we partnered with international organizations such as GIZ, AFD, Meta, UNESCO, and UNICEF. Notably, she led the data collection efforts for UNESCO’s “Freedom of Expression and Media Development Global Report 2021/2022” and the “Institutional Gender Assessment of Cinvestav 2021.” Recently, Ivette took on the role of senior researcher in the project “Breaking the Vicious Cycle: Identifying Intervention Points to Tackle Disinformation in Senegal and Burkina Faso” with AFD.

Her commitment to sharing knowledge is also evident in her role as a facilitator of workshops, including the Gender Data 201 online course, and her active participation in panels at events such as the Code for All Summit 2023. Ivette’s work continues to drive critical discussions and initiatives at the intersection of technology, democracy, and gender.
