Overview and Outlook 2023-2024

The world of 2024 should be much safer, fairer, more empathetic, sustainable, and hospitable than it currently is. AI’s contribution to this vision should also be much more positive than the trajectory we see today. Anger and frustration can either fuel despair and cynicism or ignite determination and commitment; renouncement or resolve. We choose the latter path, driven by one question: What can we, as an organization, do to make data and AI forces for positive social change, creating a less violent, less polarized, less fragmented, more equal, fraternal, and sustainable world?

As we look ahead to the second half of 2024 and into 2025, we will continue our work across Thematic Programs—confronting mis- and disinformation, addressing humanitarian crises, fighting for gender equality, and developing data and technology solutions guided by these principles. Our goal remains clear: to ensure that data and AI contribute to making the world a better place.
