Enrique Bonilla has worked as a data scientist for 7 years, including over a year with Data-Pop Alliance. He was recently interviewed by Dr Martine J Barons (of the University of Warwick) about the rewards and challenges of his career, as well as the factors that can contribute to success in this field. He discussed the importance of teamwork and creating data outputs that are accessible to users (including to those without a data science background). He went on to emphasize the need for strong ethical frameworks, with a focus on the inclusion of otherwise marginalized populations during data collection and provisions to safeguard privacy. Finally, he shared what he finds most enjoyable about his work, and gave advice to others seeking to enter the profession.
